Dear all,
Because of the current coronavirus outbreak the club is closed until further notice, I hope you all stay safe and well and to see people at the club again before too long
All the best,
Phil
With summer coming to an end it’s almost time for the new chess season. Our first club night of the year will be on Monday 16th September,
New members and visitors are always very welcome and I look forward to seeing lots of old and new faces.
We’ll also be holding our AGM on the 23rd, with the short formal part followed by the always enjoyable cheese + wine quickplay evening.
Hi all,
The club is now closed for the end of the season, our results:
City 1 finished second to a very strong Uni 1 side who were runaway leaders once again
City 2 have (we think!) narrowly maintained their position in division 2 after a hard fought season
City 3 finished a very respectable 4th in the 3rd division
City’s cup team remains in the running with a semi-final match against University on Monday
We’ll be back in September, my thanks to John Yates and Simon King who are stepping down as Treasurer and Secretary after 30 and 25 years in the posts respectively, I’m sure the rest of the club would join me in their thanks. This does mean we are in search of two new officers come our AGM in September, please let me know if interested.
Have a good summer!
Phil
After the summer break the club is restarting on the 10th September at 7:30, so it’s time to dust off the chess skills after the summer break. Hopefully will see lots of old and new faces there.
Hi all,
The club AGM will be held Monday 25th September, to kick the season off this will be followed by the traditional cheese + wine quickplay. We play this with a handicap system to level the playing field between players of various strengths within the club.
Visitors and new members are very welcome but might prefer to arrive 8ish, assuming the cheese + wine quickplay is of more interest than the AGM anyhow!
Phil
After the long summer break the chess season is restarting and the club will be open this coming Monday, starting at 7:30
New members and visitors are very welcome to join us for a few games
The chess season is almost back after the summer break, the club is back open again at 7:30 this Monday. Visitors and new members are always welcome to join us.
The club has now closed for the Summer, we’ll be back in September.
A quick report on how the teams performed
City 1 finished 3rd in the 1st division, well behind runaway champions uni 1 who certainly deserved the title this year. We did however beat them in the cup semi-final on the way to winning the trophy for a third season running.
City 2 finished in 6th in the 2nd division, at the bottom of quite a tight mid table pack but well safe of the relegation spots all season
City 3 had a strong season, finishing 2nd in the 3rd division
City 4 (Abingdon school) also played well and retained their division 3 status with a 6th place finish.
Best wishes for the summer.
