The club has now closed for the Summer, we’ll be back in September.
A quick report on how the teams performed
City 1 finished 3rd in the 1st division, well behind runaway champions uni 1 who certainly deserved the title this year. We did however beat them in the cup semi-final on the way to winning the trophy for a third season running.
City 2 finished in 6th in the 2nd division, at the bottom of quite a tight mid table pack but well safe of the relegation spots all season
City 3 had a strong season, finishing 2nd in the 3rd division
City 4 (Abingdon school) also played well and retained their division 3 status with a 6th place finish.
Best wishes for the summer.
A quick note that the club AGM will be held on the 9th May, this will also be the last club night of the season and will be accompanied by our traditional wine and cheese handicap quickplay.
Please let Simon know for catering if coming
Many Oxford City players took part in last weekends Kidlington chess congress
The congress was excellent as always and it was nice to see a good few City players present. Congratulations especially to John Yates who took joint 2nd in the U145 section and to Leif Dixon who took a share of the grading prize in the U180 section
Sean has kindly provided a record of an interesting club championship match he had against Jason in the last round. Any other games people would like to publish let me know and i’m happy to add.
The club championship is back and running this year after a few years break – thanks to Peter Mcleod for organising – with a game each month throughout the year, after two rounds the standings are:
John Y 1/2
John L 1/2
Best of luck to everyone in the remaining rounds
The club is opening up again after the long summer break.
Do come along on Monday, new players are welcome.
The new club website is now live. I’ll try and keep it up to date through the season with news and club events.
Any suggestions for the site then let me know
